General
Where can I find IRS forms I need?
Visit our Resources page for direct links to commonly used IRS forms, or go to www.irs.gov/forms-instructions-and-publications to search any form you need. We have curated the most important forms for small business owners and individuals on our website for your convenience.
Do you offer bookkeeping and year-round tax planning, or just tax preparation?
We offer comprehensive services beyond tax preparation - including monthly bookkeeping, quarterly tax planning, payroll solutions, S-Corp elections and compliance, and IRS audit representation. We are a year-round tax and financial partner, not a once-a-year preparer.
What makes Fairway Tax Solutions different from other tax preparers or using software like TurboTax?
Unlike software or big-box chains, you get personalized service from former IRS professionals who understand your industry. Adrienne is a CPA and former IRS Revenue Agent, and Vanessa is a former IRS Revenue Officer. We do not just file your return - we proactively plan strategies to minimize your tax liability year round and represent you if issues arise.
Tax preparation
When are my quarterly estimated tax payments due?
Quarterly estimated payments are due four times a year: April 15, June 15, September 15, and January 15. Missing these deadlines can result in penalties, so we recommend setting calendar reminders. We can help you calculate quarterly payments to avoid surprises at tax time.
What documents do I need to bring for my tax appointment?
Bring all income documents (W-2s, 1099s, K-1s), expense receipts, your prior year return, Social Security and ID cards for all dependents, and any IRS notices you have received. See our New Client Tax Preparation Checklist for the complete list based on your situation.
Do I need to file quarterly estimated taxes if I'm self-employed?
Yes, if you expect to owe $1,000 or more for the year. As a self-employed individual you owe both income tax and self-employment tax. Quarterly payments help you avoid underpayment penalties and a massive April bill. We can calculate your quarterlies and keep you compliant.
Should I elect S-Corp status for my business?
It depends on your income level and business structure. S-Corp status can save significant self-employment tax once net income exceeds about $60,000 to $80,000, but it adds compliance requirements like payroll and quarterly filings. We analyze your situation to determine whether S-Corp election makes sense and handle the paperwork if it does.
Deductions & planning
What can I deduct as a small business owner?
Small business owners can deduct ordinary and necessary business expenses like home office costs, vehicle mileage, business supplies, professional fees, and marketing. Download our Schedule C Deduction Checklist for the full list, or schedule a consultation to discuss your specific situation.
How can I itemize to get more deductions than the standard deduction?
Itemizing makes sense when your eligible deductions (mortgage interest, property taxes, medical expenses, charitable contributions, state and local taxes) exceed the standard deduction. Download our Itemized Deduction Checklist to see whether itemizing is right for you, or book a tax appointment.
Pricing & engagement
How much do your services cost?
Our pricing is tailored to your unique tax situation and the services you need, because no two clients are the same. Whether you are an individual, a business owner, or somewhere in between, we want to ensure you receive an accurate quote reflecting exactly what we will do for you. Schedule a free consultation and we will put together a package built specifically for you.

IRS notices & audits
What should I do if I can't pay my tax bill?
Don't panic. File your return on time even if you can't pay in full to avoid failure-to-file penalties. Then consider IRS payment plans (installment agreements), an Offer in Compromise if you qualify, or Currently Not Collectible status. We can negotiate with the IRS and set up an arrangement that fits your budget. Reach out immediately if you are facing this.
Can you help me if I am behind on filing previous years returns?
Absolutely. We specialize in helping clients get back into compliance with the IRS. Whether you are behind one year or several, we can prepare all unfiled returns, negotiate penalty abatement where applicable, and set up payment plans. The IRS is more lenient when you proactively address the issue - schedule a consultation today.
What happens if I get audited by the IRS?
Stay calm - an audit doesn't automatically mean you did something wrong. Contact us immediately. With Adrienne (former IRS Revenue Agent) and Vanessa (former IRS Revenue Officer) on your side, you have expert representation. We communicate with the IRS, gather documentation, and work to achieve the best possible outcome.
